West Coast Port Contract Negotiations

The talks between the ILWU- International Longshore & Warehouse Union and the PMA- Pacific Maritime Association (Terminal Operators) started on May 12th. They hope to have a tentative agreement by July 1st. In the event they do not reach an agreement a slow down or strike is possible.

As a precaution and is normal in this situation many of the SS lines are filing – Port Congestions Surcharges- PSC, in their FMC tariffs just in case. These will run from approximately $800 on a 20, $1000 on a 40 and up to $1125 on a 40 HC.

July 1, 2014- The contract between the ILWU and PMA expires at 5pm today. At this time negotiation continues on a new labor contract and the west coast ports remain open and moving cargo.
